Character Information
*Character Name: X-23
*Character Canon: X-men Evolution
*Age: Mid-teens
*Race: Altered clone of a mutant human with the X-gene
*Timeline/Pull Point: Following the end of Season 4 Episode 3 where X-23 finally broke away from the two organizations trying to hunt her down.
*History: Doctor Deborah Risman, once a scientist for Hydra, took up the recreation of the Weapon X project in an effort to push the boundaries of genetics beyond what any government would allow. In the process, 22 attempts were made and failed, but following the acquisition of the original Weapon X’s DNA, she was able to succeed. Weapon X, also known as Logan or Wolverine, had the necessary mutant healing ability required to survive the process of having hot metal melded into Adamantium while being directly fused to the skeleton. Rather than cloning Wolverine entirely, she made a few genetic variations, and this resulted in some instability.
Denied all attachments and isolated from any forms of affection from infancy, X-23 developed no bonds with any of her caretakers at Hydra. She was trained and exercised, with placement into life-threatening situations from a very young age alongside teaching and periods of severe isolation. Although trained to blend with others naturally, when X-23 was finally allowed to witness loving families and watched other children having fun, unexpected hostilities emerged. X-23 was described as becoming volatile and dangerous with explosive anger than came as a result of the efforts of Hydra to breed emotion out of her.
At age 12, X-23 was subjected to the weapon X process that gave her an Adamantium skeleton with two claws in each arm and a blade in each foot. Effectively frozen in size at the age of twelve, X-23 continued with her endless training for a few more years before she finally had the chance to escape.
X-23 went rogue on Hydra following infiltration into a SHIELD base where she accessed files on the X-men. Developing a plan of attack and taking the time to observe the students and teachers at the academy, X-23 had evaded detection until she wanted to be found. Luring Professor X in close with false crying, she placed a device to his forehead to put him into an unconscious state and effectively removed him as a threat that could prevent her from reaching her target. The device, likely created by Hydra, was wired to explode with any effort to remove it forcefully. One after the other, she placed more of the devices on the foreheads of the other residents at the mansion until only she and her target were left conscious. In one case, she used Rogue’s powers to knock out two other X-men before putting the device to her forehead while she was stunned from the sudden absorption of two powers along with two sets of memories.
Confronting Logan in a fight, X-23 had assumed he knew about the project to create her. As the original Weapon X, she had incorrectly placed blame on him for her own existence. Slowly, while X-23 attempted to fight him with the intent to harm if not kill, he convinced her otherwise with words and by only defending himself without pushing back at her. When X-23 accepted the truth, she broke down crying and reached out to him. Only granted a brief moment to be hugged for the first time in her life, X-23 was startled out of her reprieve with the arrival of SHIELD helicopters. Logan told her to leave and that he would take care of them, and rather than risk being taken by the SHIELD organization that also wanted to use her, she ran.
With the desire to protect Logan, X-23 left the mansion entirely that very night and ran. Remaining off radar, she refocused her efforts and utilized her training to target Hydra bases instead. One after another, she used their own explosives to destroy the bases in an effort to track down the one truly responsible for her creation; the Supreme Hydra herself that was the head of the organization that created her and molded her to kill.
Hydra attempted to catch her many times in traps, but each time she evaded them. Allowing them to track her to an area in the wilderness, she was caught off guard when Hyrda kidnapped and dropped Logan from an airplane directly into the area. While badly wounded, he could not fight the two sent to track her, and she sprang to his defense. Escaping with Wolverine, X-23 questioned him for answers, and rather quickly grasped the situation. Hydra had used him to try to draw her out and to track her more efficiently.
Allowing Logan to follow her while still recovering from the fall, X-23 complained. She wanted him to leave, and when he tried to warn her of the trap that Hydra thought they were forcing her into, she dismissed it. In reality, she knew that Hydra was attempting to trap her once more, and had allowed herself to be captured even though she did not want Logan to be caught as well. When the trap was finally sprung, she acted her part and was knocked unconscious along with Logan.
Recovering more quickly than Logan, she slipped the same device she had used on the X-men onto herself in a non-functional state and continued to act unconscious until she was separated from any guards and left with only a scientist. Only when the scientist made a call about the device, complaining that it would interfere with the memory wipe she was about to be put through, did she drop the ruse. With a quick stop to pick up explosives from a weapon’s storage, X-23 made her way through the base in an attempt to chase down the Supreme Hydra. When her path crossed with Logan again, she told him to get out and that he didn’t have much time.
Although Logan chased her down as she reached the ship of the Supreme Hydra as it was separating from the base to escape the explosions X-23 had set off, X-23 prevented him from stopping her plan. Climbing the floating ship, she entered and confronted the Supreme Hydra. Throwing handfuls of grenades to latch onto the walls around them, she smirked at the Supreme Hydra just before they went off and the ship crashed to the ground.
While Logan initially believed that she did not survive the explosions and resulting crash and informed SHIELD agent Fury that she did not make it out, he found out otherwise as he boarded the ship to return to the mansion when he caught her scent on the wind. Having indeed survived, X-23 thought dead by both Hydra and SHIELD and escaped into the wilderness alone.
*Personality: The constant exposure to danger and threats to her safety fueled the suppression of her emotions as the most basic need of safety was never maintained. Her caretakers additionally reinforced that she should never show emotion, so X-23 became numb while young. It was not until she witnessed what she was being denied that X-23 outwardly expressed emotion once more, and that first emotion to return to the surface was hostile anger. As the years passed, that anger boiled into explosive, uncontrollable rage as the scientists and other Hydra personal continued to pressure her with constant training that pushed her to her limits or beyond. With no direct focus for that anger, it came out at various times such as at the end of a fighting sequence from which her anger drove her to seek another target.
With no training beyond blending with others in public and no examples provided with how to handle emotions except through suppression, X-23 is almost childlike in that she has no filter for her emotions. She does not understand how to deal with natural emotions, and this is a great source of frustration. X-23 is truly a well groomed assassin, but she severely lacks in social skills and manners. However, in moments of vulnerability, she will cry and fall back to that basic human instinct to connect with another living being.
Due to her training, X-23 views herself as a weapon and a monster. She does not believe that she deserves otherwise. Despite this view of herself and her rage, she restrains herself with missions and while working towards personal goals. When she attacked the X-men to get to Wolverine, aka the original weapon X, she never harmed any of the occupants of the mansion in any way that would leave permanent physical damage. While her claws were out and used, she never actually attempted to cut into those that would be considered bystanders.
*Powers/Abilities: Like her DNA donor, X-23 has rapid mutant healing that allows her to recover from any physical injury which she survives without scarring or permanent damage. This healing allows for many other abilities that she possesses. At the age of twelve, X-23 went through the ‘weapon X process’ and had the indestructible alloy Adamantium fused to her skeleton. With 22 predecessors that died in the process, her healing factor is what allowed her to survive. That healing ability has additionally lent to her superhuman strength and agility, and allows her to take far greater physical punishment than any human, including direct electrocution. Capable of forcing her sharp claws through walls of solid metal, she is more than capable of swinging around other humans significantly larger than herself or even leaping ten or more feet to make an attack both outwards and upwards.
Unrelated to her healing, X-23 also inherited a superhuman olfactory sense from her DNA donor and keen hearing. Both abilities have been honed through training and are as important to her as her sight.
*Inventory: The clothing she wears and nothing more.
*Starting Polarity: No preference.

[As the video begins, X-23 is standing in view, though she isn’t used to allowing herself to be caught by any cameras, so the view is tilted and off center somewhat. Despite the odd framing, the young assassin looks as serious as ever with anger furrowing her brows down and threatening to pull her upper lip higher in a snarl.]
He’s gone. Logan is gone, and I can’t find him anywhere.
[Her speech pauses briefly as her anger fades slightly with worry mixing into her expression before she continues.]
He’s a head taller than me. Broad shoulders. Black hair. Pale skin.
[The worry vanishes quite suddenly back behind her anger as she lifts one arm up in front of herself with her fingers curling into a fist. Her voice tightens, becoming threatening and hard.]
If any of you took him or made him leave…
[In an instant, the two blades in the back of her hand slice out from the two slits in her glove as her eyes narrow with a dangerous look.]
I will find out.
[The video ends with those words.]
*Third Person Sample:
There is a moment, where she hangs between being awake enough to generate thought and the stillness of the time spent entirely unaware of her senses. In this brief time before her guard returns, she becomes aware of new sensations. Beneath her body, she can feel the hard and cold stone with the compacted mineral pressed against her cheek. Across her back and side, the wind slides over her only to tease strands of her long chocolate brown hair away from her face and into the air as it shifts and dances in the solitude.
Then all at once, her thought and memory rush back. Pulling in a sharp breath, she holds it in her chest as her muscles tense and push against the ground without yet changing her position. With breath stilled, she opens her dark eyes to an unfamiliar landscape. Searching the immediate area, she very gradually releases her held breath to maintain quiet, then breathes soft and shallow to smell the air around her. With the wind shifting, she has a better chance of picking up any scents nearby that might otherwise be downwind. Yet, while there is plenty to smell, she detects nothing human or mutant.
Ever cautious, X-23 waits and breathes softly, listening for anything she might have missed picking up by scent. When nothing but the gentle whistle of the wind reaches her for nearly a minute, she then plants her hands firmly against the stone and shoves hard to push herself up and tuck her legs beneath her in a low crouch. Arms moving to the sides as her feet take her weight, all four blades slice through her flesh to come out at the ready for a potential fight.
Eyes searching, she sees…nothing. There is no threat near her, no matter which way she looks.
Moving to stand, she keeps her claws at the ready for a few moments longer with her muscles still tightly tensed. Gradually though, she accepts that there is nothing near after one last check on the wind, and she lowers her arms and tucks the blades away into her forearms.
Confusion sets in as she tries to fathom how she got here, and just where this ‘here’ might be. Much to her annoyance, a glance upwards reveals a sky covered with clouds that block her view of the stars. There would be no guidance from the constellations then. As the corners of her lips turn down into a frown, she looks at her surroundings more slowly. There is nothing particular she can gleam from the rocky formations however, being unable to recognize the mineral as anything special or unique. Still, those taller formations would be useful in another way. Heading towards them at a light pace, she does not hesitate to leap upwards to the first ledge she can reach to then continue climbing her way upwards. Scaling the rock proves simple enough with her gloves protecting her hands providing extra grip.
X-23 reaches the top of the formation, and crawling up to crouch, she steadies herself before looking out into the far distance. Searching in a pattern, she scans the horizons for any sign of a settlement or flora. A second time she looks over more slowly…but nothing. Taking time to listen and smell at the higher currents of air, she once more finds no sign of anything upwind.
Then her path is clear. Sliding forward from the top of the rock, she drops down to the nearest outcropping to spring off and continues downwards in short drops until she reaches ground level once more. Standing from the landing crouch, she begins to walk with the direction the wind blows.
Whatever brought her here, however she came to be in this place doesn’t matter as much as finding her way out. Not right now.
